Chelsea Bridge Man armed with screwdriver tasered dead

Shocking! Difficult to make a judgement without all the facts, he had a screwdriver and was shouting?

So how would the old bill of dealt with this situation before they had tasers? A lot of coppers these days just do not have the physical and mental capacity to police. We often hear of some brave copper running towards danger to protect the public in a terrorist incident but there are also some officers who are more than likely to hold back or retreat when faced with a hostile situation. Its true that they are doing the job with one hand tied behind there back and risk assessments health & safety etc sometimes dictate that the order is to retreat but the recruitment process these days is more about box ticking than an ability to effectively do the job of maintaining law and order. I maintain that certain situations dictate a show of strength and a presence but what we are often witnessing these days is weak inexperienced & ineffective officers who just don't have the minerals. Fast track recruitment now means that with the right qualifications you can more or less bypass plodding the beat and become a detective with fuck all experience of policing. Public order policing tactics are also selective with football crowds being fair game whilst protesters such as those in Bristol are allowed to pull statues down due to an operational decision based on a risk assessment. On another note how do some od these woodentops pass the physical exam? So many fat and unfit coppers out there.

Just saw the 52 second clip on YouTube, looks like it was recorded by the first vehicle in the queue on the bridge after the police presumably stopped the traffic.
African bloke gets tasered and rolls about on the floor, gets up and tasered again.
Gets up again and jumps over the containment barrier to stop vehicles banking up on the footway.
The police chase him and try and grab him but he leaps head first over the actual parapet into the river.
Looks like suicide, can’t see how the old Bill are to blame for that.

With the Bristol stuff I was amazed at when it got on top for them outside the station there were a whole host of them videoing the incidents outside from the safety of first, second floor windows as opposed to them actually helping their colleagues in the midst of it. It doesn't need 30 plod to film it all when 28 of them would have been better employed actually trying to stop it and do the decent thing and help their colleagues who were under the brunt.

Most arrests for public order offences these days are made retrospectively with the use of cctv or bodycam footage and then cell site analysis if required. Risk assessments often dictate that it would be too dangerous for a snatch squad to go in and arrest a perpetrator at the scene so they are filmed and evidence gathered with appeals being issued if they are not already known. Considering the number of cctv cameras in London its probably possible to follow someones movements from crime scene to front door. Most police investigate work is simply collecting and collating this footage and identifying the perpetrator. Cell site analysis also a useful tool in identifying someones movements and contacts.

It's not the fault of the Police.
Firstly, he should have known that water and electricity doesn't mix. Secondly, that was not the right approach for such a dive.
He choose poorly. He was a screwed-diver.

He was tasered, not shot. If he chooses to run then that’s his problem.
In America they probably would have shot him dead.

Bad enough being mentally ill, without the Police (almost literally) pushing you over the edge.
*makes note not to go crazy before the professed concern for mental health becomes more than pious words uttered to make people feel good about themselves*

Fuck him, another loon off the streets is ok with me and the old bill done nothing wrong.
He didn't listen and then chose to jump off a bridge.
Laters.

Yeah, what we need is brave men like you, protecting everyone and fighting off nutters who have potentially deadly weapons with kind words and rainbow laces.

Terribly sad, no doubt suffering from PTSD from his experiences in war torn France.
Fortunately we are importing hundreds every day to replace this poor soldier.
